The Wove

LOCATION: Miami, FL

PROGRAM: Pavilion + Education

STATUS: Proposal

The Wove is an experiment in architectural design generated through parametric environmental analysis.

A communal outdoor pavilion with areas for education and recreation, The Wove was designed using Grasshopper parametric scripts that calculate the solar radiation gains of the site, and adjust the structure accordingly to provide shade where needed throughout the year.

The Wove’s script factors in the nuances of South Florida’s annual solar paths and cloud cover, as well as surrounding grey and green infastructure. This script could be applied to any site and produce a design that is customized to its unique environmental conditions.

The Wove’s structure is made of aluminum piping that is CNC bent to match exact sine-curves to produce an effective solar shade. The structure is welded into interlocking panels that assemble onsite over a sub structure of Stainless steel tubing.
